Tammy Proves Me Wrong

A few weeks ago I was quoted in the Isthmus as saying "Her (Tammy Baldwin's) biggest weakness is she's not bold enough. She's not willing to stick her neck out for things that are important."

Well, it seems Tammy is proving me wrong by pushing for impeachment hearings. I hate to make mistakes, but in this case I couldn't be happier!

And did you see this entry on her blog?

It's awesome! Go Tammy!

Sigh. Another "Progressive" who would rather vent than govern. There aren't a lot of ways for Dems to lose in 2008 but this is one of them.

Gee, it only took you a month to attempt to make up for your stupid comment in Isthmus. When the left eat the left, it only strengthens the right. I hope this is a trip to reality you plan on staying for awhile....

When I did my interview with Isthmus it was very clear that they intended the article to be rather critical. As you would expect, they pulled out the one thing I said in a fairly long interview that supported their angle.

That's just how the media works, although if I was the least bit worried about Tammy electorally I wouldn't have offered even the reasonably gentle criticism that I did. But Tammy is about as secure as anybody can get in Congress.

Although I try to careful what I say and when I say it, I'm not a suck-up and I never will be. I think reasoned and reasonable debate and criticism is healthy and necessary to maximize political success.

Unfortunately the natural tendency in any political party is to tamp down questions and dissent. I would argue that this approach hasn't served the Democratic Party well over the past thirty years, and needs to be moderated, which is a view I'd be happy to debate publicly with any of my critics.
