Reform Dem Challenges The Proletariat!

UPDATE: Henry has responded! Check the comments for the latest.

Henry Dubb (a pseudonym), on his blog The Proletariat, has been spouting a lot of wild and crazy stuff about Obama and the Democratic Party. He's certainly entitled to his opinions, uninformed though they may be, but now he's crossed the line, forcing me to bring out the heavy artillery. Henry is predicting that:

"Obama will lose big come November."

Well, I'm not going to take that lying down! Since we can't seem to discuss the error of his ways, mainly because Henry is still deleting most of the comments I leave on his blog, I issued him the following challenge:

Henry, I'll bet you a case of beer, or $50 to a charity of the winner's choice, that Obama wins this fall. Since you're so sure how things are going to turn out, this should be a no-brainer. My only condition is that both of us announce the bet, and the settlement, in posts on our blogs. No backing out when the going gets tough.

Talk is cheap. Are you willing to put your money where your mouth is? Email me: russwallac@aol.com.

And you're still dumping my comments. Why do I scare you so much? If you can't go toe to toe with people who don't agree with you then maybe you should find a hobby that doesn't involve expressing your opinions quite so publicly.

Pwned!!!

So what will it be, Henry? I've thrown down the gauntlet. Is what you write just hysterical anti-Obama propaganda, or do you actually believe it?

I'll be waiting...

(That's me with the blue lightsaber, and Henry with the red. I don't think his horns are visible under normal circumstances.)

Henry actually responded to my challenge, although he edited my comment which contained it. For a guy so concerned with Obama's supposed fascist tendencies, Henry sure puts a lot of effort into eliminating points of view he doesn't like.

Anyway, here's what he had to say:

I am someone who has never purchased a lottery ticket, but don’t worry you won’t get off the hook that easy.

Rather than money, how about wager our votes. We can use the probability graphs up at Homind. http://hominidviews.com/?p=1589. They are updated regularly and use the most current polling data available.

If Obama is at 50% or greater probability on lets say November 1st, I will vote for Obama, if McCain is, you’ll vote for him.

I will post the Homind updates when they become (new polling data) available. If Obama has 50% or more I’ll donate $5 to his campaign, or a Democratic organization of your choice. If McCain is winning by 50% you can donate $5 to McCain, Nader, McKinney, or Barr.

Link above has a map of the most recent polling (Obama 60% - McCain 40%). Wanna play.

And here's my answer, which I left in another comment on Henry's blog. It's unfortunate that I have to post it here, but there's no telling if he'll publish it intact:

I see you're still comment-challenged, Henry. Not to worry, I posted the whole thing on my blog for everyone to see.

I like your proposal, but let's up the ante a bit more. You don't like to bet, and I sure don't like to vote for Republicans, so lets do both. I'll accept your challenge if you'll accept mine, with the provision that, on election day, the loser lets the winner observe and verify his vote. With media present. The risk of public humiliation will make this so much more fun!

You in?

The Great Obama / McCain Bet

Reform Dem: I like your proposal, but let's up the ante a bit more. You don't like to bet, and I sure don't like to vote for Republicans, so lets do both. I'll accept your challenge if you'll accept mine, with the provision that, on election day, the loser lets the winner observe and verify his vote. With media present. Sounds good. To recap.

We, Reform Dem and The Proletariat, are entering into a bet in regards to the result of the general election on the 7th day of June 2008. Specifically upon who, Obama or McCain, will be the win the electoral college in November of 2008.

The Proletariat will post the current probability of McCain or Obama winning the electoral college on the 1st of every month (July through November). Hominidviews.com will be used to verify the probability of victory for both candidates. If McCain has a probability of winning in excess of 50%, Reform Dem will donate $5 to a non Democratic political campaign (McCain, Nader, Barr, or McKinney). If Obama has a probability of victory over 50%, The Proletariat will donate $5 to the Obama campaign.

In addition to the $5 donation by either Reform Dem or The Proletariat, on the November posting of the electoral college an additional consequence is Reform Dem voting for McCain, or The Proletariat voting for Obama.

Lastly as requested by Reform Dem, the loser of this bet must be accompanied to the voting booth by the winner for verification and humiliation sake. Both Reform Dem and The Proletariat are fully aware that such a bet is in violation of Wisconsin Law and very likely are wagering the ultimate sacrifice in a democracy, their right to vote.iefuj

Henry, don't forget the beer. One case, preferably local, based on the election outcome. It's an old Wisconsin tradition, loser buys. You can bring it to the Obama victory party. It you don't like the beer idea, I'm also OK with a $50 donation by the loser to a charity of the winner's choice.

Just to be clear, the outcome of the vote part of the bet shall be determined by the first Hominid Views election probability analysis posted on or after November 1, 2008. I win if Obama is greater than 50%, you win if McCain is greater than 50%.

Agreed?

Sorry, I could not vote for Obama in good conscience. The best I could do is sit this one out. I am crossing my fingers the school referendum passes.

I've sat on this a long time so that I could cool down before responding, but I'm still pretty pissed off. You're a pathetic excuse for a leftist intellectual, Proletariat. You talk big, but you don't have the integrity to stand behind your words.

I have little doubt that you would have expected me to keep my part of our deal had I lost, and I would have done so, no matter how difficult and distasteful. You obviously don't have anywhere near the same level of commitment to keeping your promises.

I seriously considered exposing your real identity and trying to force you to shut down your blog, because I don't think anybody with such a lack of ethics should be writing on the left. While I decided not to do that, if we ever happen to go head to head again, it will be an experience that you'll regret.
